Why the Hell Do We Still Shop at Walmart?
Recently Walmart sent me an email stating that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) had issued a recall due to an outbreak of E. coli.
The email did state that it SHOULD only affect the Romain Lettuce grown in Salinas, California, but that Walmart wanted to take “an abundance of caution” and instructed customers to “discard” any product on the list and to return to the store for a full refund.
Dear Valued Walmart Customer:
We have been notified that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and various state health authorities are investigating an outbreak of illnesses caused by E. coli O157:H7. Data and laboratory evidence indicate that romaine lettuce from the Salinas, California growing region is a likely source of this outbreak. Upon this advisory, consumers are advised to discard all products containing romaine lettuce grown in Salinas, California.
Although a formal recall has not been declared, out of an abundance of caution, we are sharing the relevant information with all potentially impacted customers.
Our records reflect that you may have purchased one or more of the below items.
There were 70 items listed in this email (PDF available by clicking the link at bottom of this post), including the full product name and the UPC.
I had purchased the “MARKETSIDE ORGANIC SPRING MIX & SPINACH 5.5OZ – 68113138783“, which was on the list.
I threw the product away as instructed, printed the 3-page email, and went to the Walmart Supercenter #2992, located at 3217 Silverback Ln, Painted Post, NY 14870. Upon telling the “Associate” at the “Customer Service Desk” why I was there, she proceeded to very rudely tell me that I was wrong and that it only affected the romaine lettuce.
Please keep in mind that the printed email was in my hand!
Your prompt action to this notice is strongly encouraged. If any of these products are still in your possession do not consume them. Please discard them and visit any Walmart store for a full refund.
At Walmart, we adhere to strict quality assurance controls and work with our suppliers to ensure that we provide you with quality products. The FDA and CDC investigation is still ongoing and their advisory will be updated as more information becomes available.
We apologize for any inconvenience and look forward to meeting your needs in the future.
Sincerely,
Walmart Food Safety & Health Team
Then a “Front End Manager” continued with that “they would have gotten an email if there was a recall!” I really wish that I could properly convey how snotty this woman was! They refused to even look at the email that PROVED what I was saying was right. They did give me my money back and then the woman that performed the transaction said: “You ate this and then brought the empty container in for the money didn’t you!?”
The total refund, with taxes, was a whopping $2.65! Yes, that was really worth my time and trouble to deal with such RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL Walmart Associates!
Why did I waste MY effort when I received an email from Walmart warning me of an issue with THEIR products!?
Some fun facts about Walmart and how their current practices, dirty stores, low-quality products, and rude employees are affecting their bottom line, as it should be!
- As of October 18, 2019, Walmart has Closed 22 stores “Due to Low Performance.”
- More Walmart stores are set to close, but official numbers and locations have not yet been released.
- Walmart US CEO: Greg Foran, says that “I get out to stores every single week,” he said. “About half the time I’m ok with it, and the other half I’m grumpy.” and “some of the company’s stores are failing to meet his standards.” At a conference he said: “…the unvarnished truth is that we have not even gotten close to arriving, for sure we are doing better, but our peers are still a long way ahead of us.” and the best quote of all is: “these stores that are letting us down!“
Walmart CEO – Greg Foran
If the CEO is saying this, how do you think the customers must feel every time they walk into a Walmart store, especially stores like Walmart Supercenter #2992 in Painted Post, New York!?
